Tools needed:
~ Cheep Color Crayons, and lots of Black Crayons
~ Paper (preferably cardstock or a type of cardboard)
~ A coin such as a quarter. Works better with a quarter.
Optional Tools:
~ Color Markers (Cheap ones, don't use expensive ones)
~ Color Pencils (Cheap ones, don’t use expensive ones)
~ Plastic Tracing Sheets
~ A blanket or sheet placed under a table.
The Craft
First, get your paper and color crayons. Put it on a table and choose at least 10 colors you like. With those colors, you could use more, scribble all over the paper with all the colors. You could also make shapes like stars and hearts, just be sure to have multiple colors in the shape or drawings. Do not use the color black yet, for you will need that later and will ruin your art.
Next, decorate the boarders with your makers and your color pencils if you want to use them. You could also do this before the first step. It’s all up to you.
Third, scribble all over the colors/drawings with your black crayons. Make sure to cover the whole paper in a thick black layer of black crayon. Do not worry; this does not ruin your drawings. It helps make a cool effect later on.
Before you go to the next step you might want to find an old blanket or sheet to place under your table, or move outside if that’s easier for you. You're going to have a bit of a mess with crayon shavings if you're wondering why that you might not want to clean up.
The last and final step is to take your quarter and scrape, yes I said scrape, off the thick black layer you scribbled over your drawing. Watch as you begin to see your colors or drawings turn into bright, cool colors! Isn't that cool? The colors have combined and turned into a cool effect.
It’s an easy and fun craft to do and kids can do it too. All you really need is paper, crayons, and a coin. You can do it over and over again with a number of different colors for different effects. When I learned this a girl in my class made a pikachu outline then filled it in with colors. She had a neon colored pikachu when she was done!!
